BMW vs Audi: Brand History
Audi and BMW have very different stories, as you might expect. Both are known for German engineering and performance and have been for much of their 100-plus-year-long histories.
August Horch founded the company which we know today as Audi back in 1910. BMW, meanwhile, was created just a few years later in 1916, first as a manufacturer of aircraft engines.
For that reason, many believe the BMW logo is a propeller blade. Actually, the Blue-and-White logo is an inversion of the Bavarian colors-fittingly, for the company known as Bavarian Motor Works! The Audi brand's four rings symbolize the merger of four auto manufacturers: Audi, DKW, Horch, and Wanderer.
