At BMW of Nashville, our customers are often drawn to the new SUV line because of their perfect balance of modern styling, superior performance abilities, and impressive features throughout. The BMW X3 is a compact luxury crossover SUV that understandably may have captured your attention with its engaging appeal. It is a third-generation SUV that is commonly compared to the BMW X5. The X5 sits right above the X3 in the BMW line, and it is a slightly larger vehicle that is placed in the executive luxury SUV class. In 2019, the X7 debuted. This full-size luxury SUV is placed above the X5 in the lineup, and it is currently BMW's flagship SUV. These SUV models are similar in many ways, and learning about their differences could help you to decide which BMW to choose as your next luxury vehicle.

For the 2020 model year, the BMW X3 is available in four trims, and the same powertrain powers these trims. This is a TwinPower Turbo inline-4, 2.0-liter engine combined with an automatic transmission. It produces 248 horsepower. The more powerful gas powertrain is a TwinPower Turbo V6 M Performance, 3.3-liter engine that will impress you with 382 horsepower. A hybrid trim level is also available.

In comparison, the 2020 BMW X5 comes in your choice of four trim levels. A 3.0-liter, TwinPower Turbo V6 engine that generates 335 horsepower is included in the lowest trim level. At the top end of the spectrum, the X5 for 2020 is outfitted with an M Performance TwinPower Turbo V8, 4.4-liter powertrain that gives you 523 horsepower. Both of these models for 2020 are available with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The 2020 X7 delivers 335 horsepower or 456 horsepower depending on the trim selected. It comes with intelligent all-wheel drive as standard equipment.

The 2020 BMW X3 is a smaller vehicle that accommodates five passengers inside the cabin. The exterior is visibly more modest than the X5 or the 3-row X7. Despite the dimension differences, these three luxury SUVs are visually similar in many ways. They both have a bowtie-style grille, but the X3's grille has modest separation down the middle. The X3 and X5 also have slanted headlights with the same multi-elemental design and upper LED light ribbon, but the X3's lights are slightly smaller. The lower fascia designs have similarities as well, such as a black air vent and L-shaped portals carrying the foglamps in the lower portion of the front fascia. The X7 for 2020 makes the most significant impact with its large size and prominent profile. While it has a signature BMW grille design, the LED headlights have a multi-elemental design. The hood and sides boast elegant flow, and a modified air vent is placed in a lower position on the side. A crisp personality line runs from the vent throughout the side.
