The BMW X5 was redesigned for 2019, which means that it doesn't get many aesthetic or amenity changes for the 2020 model year. However, the 2020 lineup sees a new trim level added that has a larger and more powerful engine. The 2020 BMW X5 also gets a few more safety features and a long list of optional amenities. The 2020 X5 also comes with two standard rows of seats, but a third row of seating is available. The adaptive suspension system, introduced for the 2019 X5, is also available for some trim levels of the 2020 BMW X5. The 2019 X5 received some notable changes, including more interior space than before with both the second and third row of seats installed. The 2019 model also has more off-road capability than previous models with more ground clearance and the introduction of an adaptive suspension system.

Performance

Both the 2020 and 2019 X5 have several options when it comes to performance. The 2020 X5 has a 3.0L V6 base engine that produces 335 horsepower and 330 pounds of feet in torque. The second engine offered on the 2020 X5 is a V8 with a 4.4L displacement. This engine has an increased power output of 523 horsepower and over 550 lb-ft in torque. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2019 X5 comes standard on the base levels with a V6 engine that produces 335 horsepower. The second engine, which is available on the higher-end trim, is a larger V8 with a peak power capacity of 456 horsepower. Both engines have an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Appearance

The design changes for the 2019 model year of the X5 carry over to the 2020 model year. The 2019 X5 gets a larger front grille and a more prominent front end all around. It is slightly taller too, which gives it increased ground clearance. LED lights are standard on the X5 in both model years, while adaptive LED headlights are available for the higher-end trims in both model years. Large 19-inch wheels are standard on the 2020 and 2019 X5.

Features

The 2020 and 2019 X5 both come with many standard features. Both include a 12.3-inch infotainment display screen that has BMW's latest infotainment technology. Ambient lighting and dual-zone climate control are standard as well. Leather seats and satellite radio are standard on the higher-end trims. The 2020 model can also get an Executive package with climate-controlled cup holders and remote start.
