And then there's the top-of-the-line 50i. The most decked-out model of the bunch, the 50i adds to the mix keyless ignition and entry, leather upholstery, upgraded front seats, quad-zone climate control and a spectacular, 16-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound audio system.

Below is a breakdown of the X5's engine options and their respective power ratings.  An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard on all models.  Both rear- (sDrive) and all- (xDrive) wheel-drive versions are available.
  • sDrive35i & xDrive35i: 3.0-liter turbo inline six-cylinder -- 300 hp; 300 lb-ft of torque
  • xDrive35d: 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder diesel -- 255 hp; 413 lb-ft of torque
  • xDrive40e: 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor and 9-kWh battery pack -- 308 hp; 332 lb-ft of torque
  • xDrive50i: 4.4-liter turbo V8 -- 445 hp; 480 lb-ft of torque
